Off To The Slightly Muddy Walton on Thames

Approximately a 20 mile round trip the route weaves its way through quite roads, along cycle lanes and finally along the river Thames before a midway refreshment stop. This Saturday ride was expertly led by one of our longstanding pilots Andrew, with stoker Rosie providing much of the power along the way.


A great mostly flat cycle, but does test the skills of the riders with a mixture of terrain, pedestrians and of course tight bollards. Taking advantage of some of the boroughs cycling infrastructure on the way to the bustle of Kingston’s busy town centre it was a great social ride with some cheerful conversations.


With a majority of the ride on what is fashionably called gravel these days, there were some slightly muddy legs. But our range of orbit tandems, stokers and pilots took it in their stride as they whizzed along the river to Hampton court. The ornately enclosed red brick palace isn’t just a popular river side destination for tourists, as it was also the destination for one of our other groups that day. Making it safely over the bridge and rejoining the river side cycle the smooth surface becomes less forgiving. Bells rang out announcing the presence of the group to dog walkers along some of the narrower sections…
